Celebrating a Leader in Optometry: Dr. Lyndon Jones

We’re proud to spotlight Dr. Lyndon Jones, a world-renowned researcher, innovator, and educator, and our Scientific Advisor.

Background & Credentials

Dr. Jones graduated in Optometry from Cardiff University (Wales) and later earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering at Aston University, focusing on the biocompatibility of contact lens materials. He also holds an honorary Doctor of Science (DSc) from Aston in recognition of his outstanding contributions to vision science.

Among his many distinctions:
  • Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (Diplomate, Cornea & Contact Lens Section)
  • Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (Class of 2021)
  • Fellow of the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) and the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE)
Research & Publications

Dr. Jones has built a global reputation for his work on contact lens materials, ocular surface biology, dry eye disease, and ocular drug delivery systems. He has authored over 500 peer-reviewed scientific and professional papers, along with a textbook, and has given more than 1,200 invited lectures across more than 40 countries. His work is widely cited, with an h-index over 80 and more than 32,000 citations, making him one of the most published and influential figures in the field of optometry and ocular science.

Leadership in CORE

For more than a decade, Dr. Jones served as Director of the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE) at the University of Waterloo. Under his leadership, CORE became one of the world’s premier research centers dedicated to the anterior eye, contact lenses, myopia management, and dry eye disease. His vision elevated CORE’s international reputation, fostered industry partnerships, and advanced clinical practice worldwide. In 2025, Dr. Jones transitioned from Director to Principal Scientist at CORE, where he continues to drive groundbreaking research and mentorship while focusing more deeply on scientific exploration.
